Water Storage Tank Quality Assurance
Scott Consulting Enginees, P.C., has provided engineering for numerous water storage tank projects. These projects have varied in size from the design of new water storage tanks to improvements or demolitions of existing ones.
SCE is unique in having the experience and expertise to verify that a quality water tank project is accomplished from design to completion.
The following steps are necessary to ensure the highest quality job:
- The foundation is checked for appropriate reinforcement and concrete quality;
- Radiographics (x-ray) are used to check the weld quality;
- Shop drawings are checked to verify compliance with DNR requirements and contract specifications;
A quality paint system is achieved with the following:
- Painting quality assurance verifies the blast quality by pictoral standards developed by the Structural Steel Painting Council (SSPC);
- Observation of the surface profile of the blasted surface for paint adhesion verification;
- Performance of wet and dry film thickness readings to ensure compliance with the construction specifications;
- Performance of holiday (pin-hole) detection tests by use of a wet sponge holiday dector on the interior tank seams;
- In addition, as a follow-up to construction, we require the painting contractor to visit the site to perform a post-construction inspection approximately 11 months after the storage tank is put in service.
